DANGOTE: NIGERIA'S ECONOMY CAN BE REVITALIZED IN MONTHS

Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, recently expressed optimism about Nigeria's economic prospects, suggesting that the nation's economy could be revitalized within a few months. Speaking to journalists in Abuja following the inauguration of the Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC) on Thursday, Dangote stated, "Our issues are not that severe. This economy can be turned around within a few months, and I believe we are on that path."

Dangote also emphasized the private sector's commitment to job creation, stating, "The private sector will support the government to invest heavily and create jobs. Government does not create jobs, but they provide the right policies. You can see the interventions in the gas sector; getting the OB3 to work will generate an additional $2 billion for the country."

On July 4, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the PECC and announced a N2 trillion economic stabilization plan to revive Nigeria's struggling economy. Established in March, the PECC is chaired by the president and includes key government officials such as the vice-president, the senate president, and the chairman of the governors’ forum. Prominent private sector leaders, including Dangote, Tony Elumelu, and Bismarck Rewane, will serve on the council for one year.

Previously, on July 2, Dangote had cautioned that the Central Bank of Nigeria's decision to raise the interest rate to nearly 30 percent could hinder economic growth.
